Tribhuvan University (TU), established in 1959 and named after King Tribhuvan, is Nepal's oldest, largest, and most esteemed institution of higher education. Its Institute of Medicine (IOM), founded in 1972 in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, is the premier center for medical education in the country.
